Matt Robichaux is delighted when he receives an invitation from celebrity horror novelist Hayden Lodge to stay with him for a few days at his home in the town of Bancroft.
Matt soon finds that nothing in Bancroft is quite as it seems. Lodge’s house is inhabited by some very unusual people, and in the town itself Matt encounters a sex-hungry ghost lurking in a bookstore’s dusty back rooms, a time-traveling apple orchard and its rambunctious keepers, a pair of friendly craftsmen who are very good with their hands, and a mysterious nature spirit haunting a quiet forest pool.
By the time Matt leaves Bancroft, he will have spent a week that was memorable, pleasurable, and totally impossible to explain.
From The Drama Society:
The nude man turned to face me once we were inside and extended a hand.
“You must be Hayden’s visitor. I’m Alex Conover, your host for the afternoon.”
“I’m Matt Robichaux. Pleased to meet you.” I looked over at Hayden and Neil, who were snickering like schoolboys in the midst of springing a practical joke. “I honestly have no idea what is happening right now. I know it’s something called the ‘Roving Revel,’ and I see you have no clothes on, but those are the only clues I’ve picked up so far.”
Alex’s eyes and smile both widened.
“Hayden. Neil. What awful people you are.” He put his hand on my shoulder. “It’s a party. A very noisy party. We’re all naked. And we’re all men. And we’re all very easily excitable.” He stepped back and looked me up and down. “We don’t see a lot of new faces around here, and you’re quite presentable. I hope you don’t tire easily.”
